Your Jetta suspension is the term given to the system of springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connects the car to its wheels. Suspension systems serve a dual purpose - contributing to the VW's handling and braking for good active safety and driving pleasure, and keeping vehicle occupants comfortable and reasonably well isolated from road noise, bumps, and vibrations. These goals are generally at odds, so the tuning of suspensions involves finding the right compromise. A lowering kit will dramatically alter your suspension system. A lowering kit will move your center of gravity and give your VDub a totally different feel.
By lowering the car with a spring kit, you are compressing the shock and forcing the shock to travel a shorter distance but at a much higher frequency. Remember shocks are made to dampen the bounce. Each shock has a certain operating range. Shocks that came with your VDub are not meant to be compressed for long periods of time while at the same time traveling short distances very very quickly. The car might feel fine right after lowering but you will quickly boil the oil inside the shocks (having the shock travel really quickly) and thus blow out the shock and render it useless. So make sure you buy the lowering springs AND shocks when you lower the car. That's why its good to buy lowering shocks and spring lowering kit together to avoid problems later down the road with your stock shocks.
