Better shifting - physics 101: Typically when one sets out to design a short shifters kit for the GTI they look to find a fulcrum point within the shift linkage that can be altered to reduce the input distance called for to change gears. This basic modification while reducing shift throw increases the inertia of the shift linkage resulting in a disconnected unbalanced feeling from the GTI transmission thru the shifters lever making gear selection more difficult. The solution is to reduce the mass of the GTI shift linkage at a rate roughly equal to the shift throw reduction preserving the GTI shifter systems inertia.
